Camera Lenses


Camera Lenses
A lens on a camera may be fixed or attached. Here is an example of some different lens lengths and the result that they produce. What do you think the advantages are of using different lens lengths?

Below are some types of photographic lenses. Research what they do and why you would use them.
Wide-angle
Making the objects closer to the lens to look bigger.
Long
Shows the entire shots including the surrounding of the main object.
Telephoto
Specific type of a long focus lens in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length
Macro
Close up photography usually of very small objects classically a macrophotography is one in which the size of the subject on the negative is greater than life size.
Attachments
A lens that you can attach to the original lens.

Using your knowledge of lenses, what type of lenses do you think have been used to take the following photographs and why?
Telephoto – the leopard looks shorter to the lens than it would appear in actual life, this is the effect the telephoto has.








Wide Angle – the little boys face is closest to the camera that makes it look bigger and goes smaller towards the bottom of his body.
 








Macro – image of a strawberry has been zoomed up on to, so you are able to see more detail of the fruit.
 








Long – shows a lot of the surroundings as well as the main object in the shot, which is of the huts.





Types of Cameras

What is the difference between Film and Digital cameras?



                       
  
                      
Film – takes only still photographs, this was popular way of taking images before digital cameras. Have to take the camera to a professional to get your images printed out.
Advantages: not battery operated so wouldn’t run out of battery after so long of using it.
Disadvantages: not able to print your images out yourself, have to take it to a camera shop to be able to print the images out, can only take up to a certain amount of images, are able to view your images after they have been printed out.

Digital – takes videos or still photographs. Digital cameras are the main 21st century devices used in the field of digital photography. You can print out the images yourself, using the memory card in your camera and copying them over to a computer and selecting of your choice the images you would like to print.
Advantages: can display the images you have taken immediately, store thousands of images (depending on you memory card size), able to delete images off the camera that you find unsuitable or to get more free storage space.
Disadvantages: battery can run out after so long of using it.

Film Types
Think about the different ways in which photographs are stored or saved. and the types of film that (You may wish to research the different types of film and storage devices).
Memory Card, CD, DVD, Hard Drive, USB
Equipment
It is important that every professional photographer is prepared for a shoot and in the development stages. What types of equipment do you think a photographer would need?
During the photo shoot:
Fans, Designers, Illustrators, Desktop Publisher, Camera, Tripod, Equipment that relates to the photo-shoot (e.g. sunglasses, mats, beach balls)
After the photo shoot:
Editing Software, Dark Room (if film)

Illustration - Hrana Janto is an artist long inhabiting the realms of History, Fantasy, Myth and The Sacred -

Photojournalist - David Gillanders is a black and white documentary photography and photographs the world around him -
